SHIFTING GEARS

Having just passed 700 blog posts for the past 12 years, I decided to capitalize on what I have written, mused about, and shared with others without regard for the Oxford comma.

I intend to review these posts and see which ones seemed to have resonated most with people who viewed them, read them and offered up comments from time to time.  Some may be worth reading again, or for many of you, for the first time.  Whichever it is, my hope is that you will find something of value and enjoy or appreciate the thoughts, observations and meanderings as much as I have enjoyed writing them. Please feel free to comment and/or share with others.

It has been the proverbial “labor of love” sometimes effortless and sometimes a struggle to find the “right” topic or title or image or words and phrases.  Writing is a little like relationships with people. Some flow along effortlessly, in sync because of an unseen connection of shared values and beliefs expressed freely.   Others require more work and are worth the effort because of the results.

I am grateful for many of you who have been regular readers and/or subscribers over the years.

My posts are always free, no fees or suggestions of same as I have neither the desire nor the need to monetize what I write here.  I know other bloggers who believe that people value something more if they pay for it and I understand that philosophy.  Dr. Larry Mellon of Haiti, whom I visited there a couple of times, served the poorest people in the Western Hemisphere. He asked that they contribute something of value for their medical service at Hopital Albert Schweitzer in the Artibonite Valley.  Even if it was a chicken or some eggs or some other product they had grown or acquired, the contribution mattered as an exchange of currency.  To that end, if you want to make a small contribution to the charity of your choice, have at it.

I plan to select posts from the past calendar, starting with 2011, using the aforementioned criteria, and publish one approximately every two weeks instead of weekly or monthly.  We will see how it goes along, and adapt accordingly.  I may insert a new one from time to time and that will be noted by the date of the publication.  If you have any suggestions or recommendations about this approach, please let me know.  I welcome your observations, comments, thoughts and ideas as we continue on this journey together.  One thing, among others, that has surprised me are the readers from other countries and continents. When I started these publications, I never expected a blog would reach a global audience. The power and reach of social media remain somewhat mysterious to me, a digital immigrant.

On a final note, I may do some minor editing or revising if I believe that would improve the quality of the post without compromising the content.  I trust this all seems reasonable and sensible to you.  Muchas gracias, mi amigos!
