DAY SEVENTEEN – LIGHT

The sun is our source of daylight and the power of the sun is now being captured in solar panels and used for energy, an alternative, renewable source of energy. Solar power has the capacity to heat and cool homes, provide light and be stored in batteries for use as needed, such as in today’s electric cars.  Many people follow the sun year-round noticing the changes of the seasons, marking the dates of summer and winter solstices as well as vernal and autumnal equinoxes.  This winter’s Solstice is arriving in four more days and we will visit this topic again in more specific terms.  This is some background for that celebration.

From the earliest times of making fire for light and cooking, firelight is still celebrated around campfires, in fireplaces, in bonfires and in lighted candles and lamps to create a soft, ambient kind of light to provide a special atmosphere.

From flashlights to headlights to street lights, hundreds of thousands of lights can be seen from the air flying at night in the towns and cities across the country.  Bright lights fill courts and fields and stadiums so people can play and watch games at night when people are not working.

We have extended our light into the night to remove the barrier of darkness.  See how this might apply in other ways.

There are people who brighten our days with their own kind of personal light.  We have the potential to shine our lights so that others can see what they might not have seen previously.
